It’s the new technology that everyone’s talking about. But they won’t be in any old Tom, Dick and Harry’s living room any time soon as they cost a few arms and legs. Yes, it’s the 3D Printer.

Only as recently as the 1980s were computers beginning to be used in offices. Then in the 1990s, they finally began to make their way into our homes. But now the masterminds of the technological world have created printers producing almost every 3D object under the sun. Here are 5 of the most mind blowing examples.

Things You Can Make With 3D Printers

1. Chocolate

Genuinely, this ingenious idea was created by researchers at the University of Exeter enabling the owner of one to print out their own chocolate at their beck and call. Better get saving though, this comes at the not so delicious price of $4,384.56.

2. A Camera Lens

And it wouldn’t be any old ordinary lens either, 3D printed lenses actually add some excitingly unique effects to your photography. Just as well really, as these days everyone seems to be adopting photography as their big hobby. But if you’re still not convinced, rest assured you can always head back to basics with Printer Basics.

3. A Bikini

US ladies can officially now wear a ‘high-tech bikini’. Never thought you’d be able to say that, ‘eh? Because of its thin, strong nylon material, creators say it is ideal for swimming and it actually becomes more comfortable when wet. We can’t help but wonder how comfortable it would be for sunbathing, though?

4. A Foetus

Yep, you read that right. Gone are the traditional ultrasound polaroids that you take home and frame for your mantelpiece. Step aside to embrace a 3D model and – well – an ornament of your unborn child developed by a Japanese company. Magical or plain weird? We’ll let you decide.

5. An Acoustic Guitar

Okay it’s not quite as incredible as a foetus. But that is a hard one to follow. The beauty of a 3D Printer is that you’ll be creating and innovating unique designs, and the guitar is no exception. Not only can you design your own, you can also create exact replicas of the guitars your favourite musical idols own within the comfort of your own home. If you own a 3D Printer, only then will it become a reality.

And so it seems the possibilities are literally endless when it comes to 3D printing. You can even create guns! But when technology begins to dip its toes into such controversial waters, scepticism can follow.

What do you think – Are we beginning to take technology too far? What would you create if you got your hands on a 3D printer? Kindly leave your comments below.
